When a mining customer in Tanzania needed a reliable way to lift materials through a vertical shaft, Yuantai Crane supplied two customized 3 ton JK high speed electric winches. The winches were configured for a lifting speed of 35 m/min, a 150 m drum capacity, and a 15 mm wire rope. Both units have completed production and were shipped to the customer’s destination port in Tanzania.

Customer Challenge: High Speed Lifting for a Mining Shaft
The customer required a high speed winch for lifting loads from a mining shaft. The main requirements were a 3 ton lifting capacity and a lifting speed within 30–35 m/min. The winch needed to handle mining materials vertically, not personnel. The power supply was 380V, 50Hz, three-phase, with a control arrangement suitable for the intended operation.
For this application, lifting speed was an important selection criterion. The customer needed to move mining materials at the required speed, while drum capacity and wire rope specifications also had to be considered as part of the complete lifting arrangement. The proposed equipment also needed an electro-hydraulic brake and push-button control.
Yuantai Crane treated the inquiry as an application problem, not just a model number. Key questions included: What is the shaft depth? What is the loaded container weight? What rope reeving is used? What local mine safety rules apply? The answers determine whether a given winch is suitable.
Customized JK High Speed Electric Winch Solution
Yuantai Crane selected the JK high speed electric winch configuration. Each winch has a rated lifting capacity of 3 tons and a lifting speed of 35 m/min, meeting the upper end of the customer’s requested range. The drum capacity is 150 m with a 15 mm wire rope. The equipment uses 380V / 50Hz / 3-phase power, push-button control, and an electro-hydraulic brake.

The drum’s stated rope capacity should not be interpreted as the maximum usable shaft depth. Final usable rope length depends on winding layers, drum geometry, rope reeving, sheaves, anchorage, and the additional rope length required by the installation. The 15 mm wire rope must also be compatible with the load, reeving system, and applicable safety requirements. These details should be verified as part of the complete hoisting design.

The electro-hydraulic brake is an important part of the winch’s stopping and load-holding arrangement. Its suitability for a mining shaft application must be evaluated against the actual duty, braking requirements, and the complete lifting system. Push-button control provides the specified operating method for this order. Before commissioning, the final control arrangement and operating procedures should be confirmed, with appropriate safeguards established for the installation.
Production Completion and Shipment to Tanzania
After the equipment configuration was established, we proceeded with the production of the two JK high speed electric winches.

Both units have now completed production and have been shipped to the customer’s destination port in Tanzania. This marks the completion of the manufacturing and dispatch stage of the order.
For industrial lifting equipment, clear technical specifications are important not only during selection but also throughout production, inspection, and delivery. Confirming the agreed configuration helps keep the supplied equipment aligned with the original project requirements.
For similar orders, we can discuss the required capacity, lifting speed, rope drum capacity, power supply, and control arrangement before preparing a suitable proposal. Where necessary, customers can also provide drawings or site information so that the equipment configuration can be evaluated in the context of the complete installation.
Safety and Compliance: Material Lifting Only
The electric winches supplied by Yuantai Crane are intended for pulling or vertical lifting of industrial materials. They are not supplied or intended for personnel lifting. Personnel lifting is prohibited for this application. Any separate personnel-hoisting requirement would need a dedicated system specifically designed, assessed, and approved for that purpose.
A mining shaft lifting application requires more than selecting a winch based on capacity and speed. The lifting container, guide arrangement, rope path, supporting structure, braking system, and operating controls must be considered together. The actual installation must comply with applicable mining regulations and safety requirements in Tanzania or the country where the equipment will operate.
The specified IP54 protection rating describes the enclosure’s protection against dust ingress and water splashes under applicable test conditions. It does not mean that the equipment is explosion-proof or suitable for every underground mining environment. Where combustible gases, explosive dust, or other hazardous conditions may be present, Yuantai also supplies explosion proof winches for your choice.

FAQs About Electric Winches in Tanzania
What power supply can you provide for an electric winch in Tanzania?
For this Tanzania project, the winches were built for 380V / 50Hz / 3-phase. If your site uses 400V, 415V, or another supply, we can evaluate the correct configuration before production.
How do I avoid buying the wrong electric winch for a Tanzanian mining shaft?
Do not choose by tonnage alone. Shaft depth, loaded container weight, lifting speed, rope reeving, drum capacity, brake, and power supply must be checked together.
Can you ship an electric winch to Dar es Salaam or another Tanzanian port?
Yes. For this project, the two JK winches were shipped to the customer’s destination port in Tanzania. We can arrange export packing and delivery documents, and coordinate with your forwarder for Dar es Salaam or other ports.
Do you provide spare parts and after-sales support in Tanzania?
We provide a recommended spare parts list, English manuals, and remote technical support. For remote mine sites, we suggest planning critical wear parts before shipment to reduce downtime. Local installation and maintenance should be handled by qualified personnel.
How much does an electric winch in Tanzania cost?
Price depends on lifting capacity, speed, drum capacity, wire rope, voltage, brake, control, and shipping terms. Send your application details for an accurate quotation.
