How to use the electric chain hoist safely?

Inspect the Chain Hoist

  • Always check the electric chain hoist to be sure it is in good condition before use. Make sure the hoist is attached firmly to the overhead crane. Check that the hook is in good order. Should you notice any deformation, cracks or other signs of damage, do not proceed with work. It is best to replace any defective parts. Take note of the load capacity at all times.

Run a Test

  • Attach a light load onto the hook. Secure the load in the saddle of the hook. Engage the saddle latch to secure the load. Operate the motor slowly in both directions for about 10 minutes. Check the emergency button. Once depressed it should immediately halt all hoist and trolley operations. Once you’re certain the hoist is working properly, lower the hoist and remove the load.

Attaching Load

  • Position the hoist directly above load to be lifted. Attach the load into the saddle of the hook. Engage the saddle latch to keep the load firmly in place. You can also use slings to secure the load onto the hook.

Lifting

  • Turn on the machine and pull the “up” control key. This will make the chain hoist move upwards with the load. Maintain a slow speed as the crane lifts the load. Be sure the load is well balanced. If it appears to be swinging to one side, make the necessary adjustments so that balance is achieved. The right balance is vital in carrying efficiently. Lift the load until you reach the desired height. Be sure to maintain a clear distance from the load.

Moving Left or Right

  • To move in either the left or right directions, select the corresponding control to move the trolley in that direction.

Lowering

  • Pull the “down” control key. Maintain a slow speed as you lower the load to the desired spot. Avoid lowering loads swiftly, as it causes an abrupt landing. More damage is likely to result when a load is suddenly dropped onto the floor.

Emergency Stops

  • When depressed, the emergency stop button will bring all activity to an immediate halt.

Detaching the Load

  • Disengage the saddle latch and remove the hook from the load.

Store the Hoist

  • It is best to store your chain Electric hoist away in a clean condition. Lubricate the chain and hook latch. Store the hoist in a dry and safe place.

Safety Tips

  • Do not stand underneath the load at any time. Avoid carrying loads over people.
