Heavy manufacturing facilities often require lifting equipment not only for material handling, but also for machinery installation, component replacement, and routine maintenance. When equipment is installed at a considerable height, both lifting capacity and lifting height become important factors in hoist selection.

Recently, Yuantai Crane supplied two 10 ton CD-type single speed electric wire rope hoists to a heavy manufacturing plant in Indonesia. The 10 ton hoists were specified for equipment installation and maintenance work, with a 26-meter lifting height to meet the customer’s high-lift requirements.

This project is also a good example of a practical wire rope hoist configuration for industrial applications in Indonesia and the wider Southeast Asian market.

Project Specifications

After discussing the customer’s lifting requirements and working conditions, Yuantai Crane proposed a customized hoist configuration for the equipment installation and maintenance work in the plant.

The customer needed a lifting solution capable of handling loads up to 10 tons and reaching elevated working positions within the manufacturing facility. Based on these requirements, we supplied two CD-type single speed electric wire rope hoists with the following configuration:

The configuration was selected as a complete solution for the customer’s intended lifting work. Instead of choosing the hoist based only on the 10-ton capacity, we considered the required lifting height, operating pattern, travelling speed and control requirements together.

The 26-meter lifting height was particularly important because the hoists needed to provide sufficient vertical travel for equipment installation and maintenance inside the high-bay manufacturing facility.

How We Configured the Hoists for the Application

The final configuration was based on the customer’s actual working requirements. Each major specification serves a specific purpose in the lifting operation.

10 Tons for Heavy Equipment Handling

The customer required the hoists to handle loads of up to 10 tons during equipment installation and maintenance.

We therefore selected a 10 ton wire rope hoist, with the actual lifting capacity limited to the rated load of the equipment and the requirements of the complete crane system.

For this application, the 10 ton hoists are intended for lifting machinery, equipment components, and other heavy loads during installation or maintenance rather than continuous production-line handling.

26m Lifting Height for Elevated Installation Work

The customer required a 26-meter lifting height, which became one of the key factors in the hoist selection.

A longer lifting height allows the hook to reach the required working positions within the manufacturing facility. This is particularly relevant when heavy equipment or components need to be lifted from lower positions to elevated installation or maintenance points.

For a high-bay manufacturing plant, the available lifting height needs to be considered together with the crane runway elevation, hook approach and the actual working position of the load.

7 m/min Lifting Speed

We configured the electric hoists with a 7 m/min lifting speed.

This determines the vertical movement speed of the hook during lifting and lowering. For this project, the selected speed was based on the customer’s intended equipment installation and maintenance work.

Because the application does not require high-frequency production lifting, the customer did not require a high-speed lifting configuration. The 7 m/min specification provides a straightforward lifting solution for the intended operation.

20 m/min Trolley Travelling Speed

The hoists are also configured with a 20 m/min trolley travelling speed.

Unlike lifting speed, trolley speed controls the horizontal movement of the hoist and load along the supporting beam or runway.

This allows the operator to move the lifted equipment to the required position after reaching the necessary lifting height.

The lifting and travelling speeds were therefore selected separately according to the customer’s requirements rather than treated as a single performance parameter.

M3 Duty Classification

The supplied hoists are classified as M3 duty.

We selected the duty classification according to the intended operating conditions discussed with the customer. Duty classification considers factors such as the expected load spectrum and number of working cycles.

This is important because the same 10-ton lifting capacity can be used in very different applications. A hoist working continuously in a production process may require a different duty classification from one primarily used for scheduled equipment installation and maintenance.

Pendant and Radio Remote Control

For this project, we supplied each hoist with pendant control and radio remote control.

The pendant provides direct operation from the control position, while the radio remote allows the operator to control the hoist wirelessly from a suitable location.

Having both options gives the customer greater flexibility during equipment installation and maintenance, particularly when the operator needs to change position to maintain visibility of the load and surrounding equipment.
