Project Overview
- Industry: Injection Molding & Mold Manufacturing
- Location: Malaysia
- Equipment: Low Headroom electric chain hoist
- Capacity: 2 Tons
- Quantity: 2 Units

In mold manufacturing and injection molding industries, safe and precise handling of heavy molds is essential. Mold components are high-value tooling assets, and uncontrolled movement during installation or replacement can affect positioning accuracy, damage tooling components, and interrupt production.
A mold-fitting workshop in Malaysia needed a reliable lifting solution for handling heavy molds inside a limited-height production area. Due to the low ceiling structure and existing injection molding equipment, a standard electric chain hoist could not provide enough lifting height.
To solve this challenge, a customized 2 Ton Low-headroom electric chain hoist solution was designed and supplied, helping the customer maximize available space while improving lifting stability and operational efficiency.
The Challenge: Limited Headroom in Mold Handling Workshop
Many manufacturing facilities in Malaysia have compact workshop layouts where overhead space is limited by building structures and existing production equipment.
In this project, the customer’s workshop had a ceiling height of approximately 3.5 meters, while the injection molding machines occupied a significant part of the available vertical space.
A conventional electric chain hoist places the motor and chain container directly below the beam, which increases the required headroom. This reduces the available hook travel, making it difficult to lift molds high enough for safe installation.
In addition to the height limitation, mold installation requires precise positioning. Traditional single-speed hoists may cause sudden starting and stopping movements, resulting in load swinging and making fine alignment more difficult.
The customer required a lifting system with:
- Maximum lifting height utilization under a low ceiling condition;
- Smooth and stable movement to reduce mold swinging;
- Precise positioning control during mold installation;
- Compatibility with Malaysia’s industrial power supply (415V/50Hz/3Ph).
Why Low Headroom Hoist Design Was Selected
Compared with conventional electric chain hoists, a low headroom design rearranges the lifting mechanism by placing the motor and chain container beside the trolley instead of directly below the beam.
This compact structure significantly reduces the required installation height and allows the hook to reach a higher position, making it especially suitable for workshops with limited overhead clearance.

For mold-handling applications, this design helps customers make better use of existing factory space without major building modifications.
Customized Solution by Yuantai Crane

Key Benefits for Mold Handling
Higher Hook Position with Low Headroom Structure
The compact low-headroom design allowed the hoist to be installed closer to the roof structure, maximizing the available lifting height inside the workshop.
This helped the customer lift molds above existing production equipment without requiring changes to the factory building structure.
Dual-Speed Lifting for Accurate Mold Positioning
The dual-speed lifting function provides two operating modes:
- 3.3 m/min for efficient lifting and lowering during normal handling;
- 1.1 m/min for slow and accurate positioning during mold installation.
The low-speed function allows operators to make fine adjustments when aligning molds with injection molding machines, improving positioning accuracy and reducing the risk of tooling damage.

Smooth Travelling with VFD Control
The travelling system uses Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) technology to provide smooth acceleration and deceleration.
Compared with traditional direct-start motors, VFD control reduces sudden movement and load swinging during operation, allowing operators to move heavy molds more safely and efficiently.
Reliable Operation in Malaysian Industrial Environments
Malaysia’s manufacturing facilities often operate in hot and humid conditions. The hoist features IP55 protection, providing improved resistance against dust and water spray.
This helps maintain stable performance and extends equipment service life in demanding workshop environments.
Project Result
After installation, the customized low-headroom electric chain hoists provided the customer with a more efficient solution for daily mold handling operations.

The compact design solved the workshop’s limited headroom issue, while the dual-speed lifting and VFD travelling system improved lifting precision and operational safety.
This project demonstrates how a properly selected low headroom electric chain hoist can help manufacturers optimize existing factory space and improve material handling efficiency.
